The Family Lucky Charms
The early days with a newborn at home brought with it a challenge that I, Maik Schwede, founder of Swing2Sleep, hardly knew how to overcome: the serious lack of sleep.
From nocturnal challenges to innovation: The birth of the automated hammock
The idea for our motorized baby hammock was born out of a deep personal need. Days and nights of struggle, while our daughter Eileen remained restless, shaped the first experiences of my wife Kerstin and me as parents. Despite the advice of friends and the reassurances of the doctors, despite the numerous guides I pored over – nothing seemed to help. I was faced with a seemingly unsolvable problem.
A solution had to be found
At a time when there were neither crying clinics nor helpful online tips and even specialist staff did not know what to do, we felt compelled to take action ourselves. We spent many nights, rocking our baby on the pezzi ball, looking for a solution that would bring peace. Our perseverance led to an important discovery: rocking our baby lightly in a blanket seemed to work wonders.
We found the way
That was our breakthrough, when we noticed how the gentle vibrations we created manually by wrapping and rocking our Eileen in a blanket worked wonders. But this method was not practical in the long run. Driven by necessity, I began to tinker, adapted the engine of a toy car and continued to experiment until the first motorized baby hammock saw the light of day. This was the beginning of a new era.
Products can be copied, but one philosophy remains original
Maik Schwede - swing2sleep
My original dream lives on today
From the beginning, my dream has been to protect children by helping both parents and their newborns get the sleep they need. I have always said that if our product saves even one child from shaking, I have achieved my goal. We've been building safe hammocks for more than 24 years now, and since our relaunch in 2016, more babies have been able to fall asleep peacefully than I could have ever imagined. Every time I see a parent's face show relief as their newborn falls asleep, I'm once again assured that I'm on the right track. Because a well-rested baby means rested parents, and well-rested parents mean a safe child.
We both always had one dream clearly in mind
In this trip, Kerstin and I were unfortunately not surrounded by a network of support, neither from friends nor family. Ultimately, it is thanks to our own enthusiasm as well as the growing swing2Sleep community and the incredibly beautiful feedback from our customers that swing2sleep exists today. Every step on this path has been driven by the belief that no parent should go through the struggle to sleep alone. Our mission to make parenting easier is far more than just a business goal; it is a matter of the heart that drives us every day. With swing2Sleep, we not only offer a solution for sleepless nights, but also a promise for a better, rested future for families all over the world.
Focus on the well-being of the child
The well-being of the child is always our top priority. All our products have one thing in common: they promote child development and strengthen family ties.
Design with an ultimate purpose
Our design team designs products that are functional, comfortable and easy to use. Above all, however, our products recreate closeness between parents and baby. Closeness promotes connection. Babies need the feeling of connection to feel secure and loved. In this way, they can develop into independent, self-confident people who are capable of learning.
Products that last a long time
Responsibility for our children is responsibility for our environment. That's why we value sustainability in everything we do. High-quality, resistant materials and functionality that grows with the child, combined with timeless design, make our products so durable – they are even passed on to subsequent generations.
